Buy Preparation SoftwareProduced by EPST (European Pilot Selection & Training), COMPASS (Computerised Pilot Aptitude Screening System) consists of nine tests which have been developed to assess those competencies required of a professional pilot.
More than 20,000 candidates worldwide have participated in the evaluation since inception in the 1990s and this method of assessment is still heavily used by flying schools, airlines and within cadet schemes today.
Like Aon (Cut-e), ADAPT and PILAPT, the COMPASS assessment is a highly popular method of assessment used in the evaluation of aspiring and newly-qualified pilot candidates.
For the assessment of experienced pilot candidates, EPST recommend the Advanced COMPASS assessment.
The COMPASS Pilot Assessment includes the following modules:
The Control test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate hand-to-eye coordination (also known as motor control) competencies, requiring the candidate to counteract the erratic movement of balls contained within two separate instruments and to center them within their respective horizontal and vertical datums.
This test module specifically evaluates Compensatory Tracking, a key competency required of the professional pilot role.
No. of Tasks: Infinite
Time Available: 5 Minutes
Use our Control activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
Additionally, this activity may be used in Linear Mode and in Circular Mode to further your preparation.
The Slalom test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate hand-to-eye coordination (also known as motor control) competencies, requiring the candidate to carefully navigate an aircraft through a vertically-aligned slalom, ensuring that the aircraft passes safely through each gate.
This test module specifically evaluates Pursuit Tracking, a key competency required of the professional pilot role.
No. of Questions: Infinite
Time Available: 5 Minutes
Use our Slalom activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
Additionally, this activity may be used in Fixed Mode and in Dynamic Mode to further your preparation.
The Mathematics test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in mathematical comprehension, requiring application of basic and advanced mathematical concepts to calculate the required answers.
This test module comprises questioning in areas such as complex operation, conversion of units, fractions and percentages, estimation of mean and mode, as well as probability, powers, roots, calculation of areas, volumes and spaces, and also includes questioning which require understanding of equations used in speed, distance and time calculations.
No. of Questions: 24
Time Available: 18 Minutes
Use our Maths for COMPASS™ activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to benefit from realistic simulations of questioning, as well as the exact mathematical topics presented in the above module.
Additionally, use this activity in Customisation Mode to manipulate your exam environment and in CoPilot Mode to isolate and improve your weaknesses.
The Memory test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in memory recall, requiring the candidate to memorise and recall chunks of information.
This test module displays information on altitude, heading, speed and radio frequency, with a similarity to that information utilised in the professional pilot role.
No. of Tasks: Infinite
Time Available: 5 Minutes
Use our Short-Term Memory activity in Normal Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
Also, use our unique FMS activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to improve Memory Recall competencies.
The Task Manager test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in multi-tasking and prioritisation, requiring the candidate to observe and transfer information presented on screen in to a computer, also displayed on screen.
This test module also includes an additional task to be completed concurrently, requiring the candidate to monitor and extinguish lights that periodically and randomly illuminate.
No. of Tasks: Infinite
Time Available: 5 Minutes
Use our Task Manager activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
The Orientation test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in spatial awareness.
In this test module, the candidate is required to interrogate sets of three common aircraft instruments and to choose from a selection of aircraft displayed on screen that correspond to the position, direction and attitude that the instruments describe.
The instruments displayed test module are a Direction Indicator (DI), an Artificial Horizon and a Relative Bearing Indicator (RBI).
No. of Questions: 16
Time Available: 10 Minutes
Use our Bearings activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
The Technical Test test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in scientific comprehension, requiring application of basic and advanced scientific concepts to provide the required answers to questions presented on screen.
This test module comprises questioning in areas such as force, motion and energy, as well as electricity, radiation and magnetism, and also includes questioning which requires understanding of mass, weight and gravity.
No. of Questions: 20
Time Available: 10 Minutes
Use our Science activity in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to benefit from realistic simulations of questioning, as well as the exact topics presented in the above module.
Additionally, use this activity in Customisation Mode to manipulate your exam environment and in CoPilot Mode to isolate and improve your weaknesses.
The optional Aviation English test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability in English Language, with particular reference to that understanding of spoken aviation terminology.
In this test module, the candidate is required to listen to a series of instructions delivered by an air traffic control unit and must answer questions regarding the information provided in each statement.
No. of Questions: 10
Time Available: 5 Minutes
Use our Attention activity in Normal Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
Also, use our unique English Language activities in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to improve your English Language competency.
The optional Verbal Reasoning test module incorporated in the COMPASS™ pilot assessment evaluates candidate ability to understand and analyse the information provided in pieces of text, as well as the ability to draw relevant and accurate conclusions.
In this test module, a passage of text is presented on screen and the candidate is required to choose an answer of True, False or Cannot Say dependent on whether the accompanying statement reflects that information shown.
No. of Questions: 10
Time Available: 22 Minutes
Use our Verbal Reasoning A-Series activities in both Normal Mode and Training Mode to engage with realistic simulations of the above module.
